Science Says: Vibrators Are Good For You
By Katy Wagner - November 7, 2025
It turns out that all the things I feel about a good solo session are true: daily masturbation can result in better self image, confidence, and partner connection. At least those were the findings in a study conducted earlier this year between Danielle Bezalel, MPH, the sex educator behind the Sex Ed with DB podcast, and Vibratex, the folks who make the Magic Wand.
Starting in February, researchers sent a Magic Wand to 1,000 study participants chosen from 5,000 applicants. The lucky recipients were instructed to spend one week totally abstaining from sexual activity, one week masturbating daily with the provided vibrator, and one week in their normal sex routines.
Body image, confidence, stress, sleep quality, and happiness improved week over week with participants reporting statistically significant improvements. Quality of life measures were lowest during Abstinence week and steadily rose over the following two weeks.
What’s more, the results stuck around.
Once participants engaged with the pleasure intervention, their emotional well-being, mental health, self-image, confidence, sexual curiosity, mood, sleep, focus, stress and desire to connect with partners and friends continued to improve into the following week and through the end of the study.
As with all things your mileage may vary here. But the next time you need a pick-me-up, consider the humble vibrator.
